Clubs
Today we are going to discuss my favorite West 6th places in no particular order.
They have all brought me many nights of good times in they’re own special way.
BARLEY HOUSE: I have been going there since since the first day they opened; right around ST. Patrick’s day, two & a half yrs ago. The clientele is a little more upscale (trendy) than the other dance clubs on 6th. The music is mostly a today mix with some great DJ’s. In the summer the side patio sets the stage for many unique promotions, such as the ever popular pool party. Unlike the other clubs, it is also host to many athletes & celebs. ( To include Superpimp..HA! ) The staff is probably the strongest point of the club. From the Barley Girls, to the bartenders, to the door men, to the owner & managers, always a class act!
VELVET DOG: A tried & true staple of 6th. I’ve been going there for nearly 15 yrs. The clientele is a little more urban & the mix of music reflects that vibe. It still employs today’s music, but also integrates a heavy dose of classic dance tunes from the 70’s and up. The Dj’s keep the dance crowd in the mood. In the summer one of my favorite places is the roof top. A place to not only enjoy the outdoors on a warm night, but also a great view of our wonderful city. A couple of bartenders have been there almost as long as I have been. True pros at what they do. The big man at the door is a V.D. icon. I have threatened to kick his ass all these yrs & he’s still scared of me. HA! Great guy who’s always been good to me.
BLIND PIG: I have gone there almost as long as the V.D. This club reminds me of the neighborhood type bar & the clientele reflects it. Some of the most friendly, hard-partying folks on 6th. As far as the music mix goes, it is a double treat. Upstairs has some of the top bands in the area with lots of lighting. Downstairs is a mix of house music with a much darker lighting scheme. The staff has always been good to me & friendly to the patrons who cause no harm.
These three clubs to me form the nucleus of what I call the “Barmuda Triangle” Just like the Bermuda Triangle, if you get sucked into it, strange things can & do happen to all who dare to enter. Outside of the Triangle is my favorite new starter spot, BAR LOUIE’S. Not a dance bar but more of talk, mingle, & meet place. It has great food, with a personable staff, who always make you feel welcome. If you want to wine & dine your significant other in a nice atmosphere, or meet a new future ex in a place with good, not to loud music, the Superpimp recommendation is…..Bar Louie’s
